Glenn and Viola Walters worked together to construct and operate the Glenn Walters Nursery, one of the largest plant farms in the State of Oregon. Both worked hard and each had a specific role. Viola propagated the plants and ran the office, while Glenn developed the infrastructure including water supplies, buildings, and field preparation. Glenn was also very adept at selling everything that was grown. Thanks to their hard work, they became the most successful nursery in the state and developed a national and international reputation, adopting the motto, "Quality is our Specialty."
Following the final sale of the Glenn Walters Nursery and retiring in the late '90s, Glenn and Viola set out to give back to the community that had supported them during their business years. To that end, they embarked on building, expanding, and/or remodeling a number of churches throughout the state of Oregon including several Spanish Seventh-day Adventist churches. In addition, they worked to fund the development of several community centers. Together, they remained committed to their philanthropic work that resulted in the creation of The Walters Family Foundation, which was formed in 1999 and has already donated in excess of $3.5 million to various causes.
Glenn was an active board member until he passed on March 22, 2010. His wife, Viola, passed on August 4, 2015. While they will be missed, their legacy of hard work, service, and giving back will always remain. The Walters Family Foundation legacy that they began will continue through their son, Cliff, two of their grandchildren, Jamie and Mindy, a nephew, Randy, and other qualified non-family board members.
